Charles Dickens Day(s)!

On Thursday 4th and Friday 5th December 53 Year 8 students visited the Head of Steam Museum in Darlington to learn more about Charles Dickens, his links with the town and how to create a compelling character. Thanks to all at Head of Steam for a fantastic day!

 Charles Dickens recounts the sad tale of his brother's death.

 

Students had the task of creating a Dickensian character and introducing him or her into a narrative. Some of the results are below....

 

'Are you sure you want another drink Mr Wilson sir?' Stammered Mr Wilson's servant Henry asked. They were currently dining in their local pub The Dancing Pigs.

'No slave'. Drawled Wilson. 'I've only had three pints plus I have a rather sustainable liver...'

As the pocketwatches of spectators turned one, Billy Mental unleashed his fury on his unwilling participant. As his knuckles filled with blood his victim lay on the floor as the sound of old bill filled the damp, pungent air.

Today I visited my first crime scene. It was horrifying. The smell of rotting corpse half way through rigor mortis is a sickening smell but the sight was much worse.
