On Wednesday 1st February, 93 hardy students and 5 intrepid members of staff embarked by coach (eventually) for Middlesbrough theatre. Their mission was to watch Shakespeare4kidz perform their rock and roll version of Romeo and Juliet.
Dull? Dry? Dreary Shakespeare? It was nothing of the sort! This interpretation was crammed to bursting with rip-roaring musical numbers and other hilarity (Juliet's Nurse- 'on the last verse' from deepest darkest Yorkshire stole the show for me; although the students prefererred Paris, Peter and Mercutio).
Our students loved it (read a range of comments below). There is no substitute for seeing the play performed and it will enable students to perform well in their forthcoming GCSE Controlled Assessment. Proof beyond doubt how exciting Shakespeare can be! Mr Blogger wishes to thank all performers and members of the theatre staff and also those who gave up their time and travelled from DSMS.
Time for a half time orange!
Mercutio's stabbing was my favorite bit!
I loved it when Romeo kissed Juliet...
Peter's bunnyhop on the scooter and crazy dancing was wicked! lol:)
It was very funny! We laughed loads.
Mercutio stole the show especially his scene with Tybalt.
Juliet was very bonny.
I loved the pre-ball dance and 'Romeo! Time to go homeo' song.
